Wow, how cool to see my work featured on websites like Cosmopolitan, US Weekly, Huffington Post, The Today Show and Buzz Feed!!! But what I love even more are the messages in these articles- women empowering other women and taking a stand against bullying!
There has been quite a bit of negative media around pageantry recently, specifically Donald Trump's involvement in the Miss USA pageant and his comments regarding Mexican immigrants. It is so refreshing to see some positive media like this #nomakeupselfie movement started by the MAO women.
Amanda Debus (pictured above) is a prime example of the impact pageant women can have within their community. Many of the pageant women I know use their crown as a microphone to create awareness for platforms and causes they hold close to their hearts.
These women are redefining beauty on their own terms. Real beauty- uncovered. Taking a stand against bullying and supporting fellow pageant sisters was more important to them than any vulnerability they may have felt when posting no-makeup selfies. Instead they sent a strong message of SELF-LOVE. This speaks volumes and has impacted more girls than they probably realize. New York Times recently posted an article in the fashion section discussing how the no-makeup look is gaining momentum and is on it's way to being the new beauty standard. Perhaps these women are onto something!!! :)
